Where can you find one of the spiciest sandwiches in the entire country as voted upon by the Food Network? Today on Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley we’re at the Blue Palms Brewhouse in Northridge, let’s go check them out.

The San Fernando Valley has a lot to offer. Amazing food, rich history, tons of community events and amazing people and organizations. I’m Scott Himelstein with The Scott Himelstein Group, and this is Eat, Live, Love San Fernando Valley.

Brian, it’s great to be here man. Pleasure to meet you Scott.

All right, so we’re starting off with a beer and beer is a huge part of what you guys are all about. So what’s somebody going to find when they come to Blue Palms Brewhouse? First of all good customer service, friendly environment. I’m from the Midwest so I really focus on really good customer service and friendly staff that’s family. And then we back it up with some really good beers that we rotate, a lot of local beers and obscure beers, always getting something new every time you come in, and staff who can explain the beer well, and then to back that up we have some really, really good food. So how do you go about choosing beers, because we’re in Los Angeles, it’s a great micro brewery city, there’s a lot of breweries out here, so how do you go about selecting your beers here locally and from across the nation? The biggest thing is I always tell people that I buy beer for my friends, so the beer community is really close knit so we try to buy local, fresh beer, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco. And we get some other stuff too from Belgium and Germany but we like the local stuff.

So what are the dishes that you guys are most known for was featured on the Food Network? Yes, we’re very lucky, we were on Food Network for a show called Crave and they went around the United States looking for the ultimate spicy dish, and somehow we won so we were pretty excited about it. One of the original beer bars in San Diego was called Liars Club and it was a similar sandwich to them, so they went out of business and we paid homage to them and designed this sandwich and spruced it up and it just took off. And it’s spicy but man, it pairs well an IPA, oh. So what’s on that sandwich? Well, we start off with making homemade jalapeno cheddar cheese bread, prime rib, and then it’s got sautéed serranos and jalapenos, and then it has a roasted Anaheim pepper on top.

You guys have some unique sausages too that you started to become really well known for also? Yeah, we put sausages on the menu because beer and sausage seems to go well, and we added them on the menu years ago and people seemed to like that too so we kept those. Cool. Well I’m hungry, I want to see how you guys do everything, let’s go back in the kitchen. Let’s go make some food. Cheers. Cheers.

This my friends is the Liars Fuego Melt. All right, so you got the prime rib in here and then this is spicy and there’s a reason why this sandwich won an award, one of the spiciest sandwiches in the entire country. So it has four different types of peppers on it, including habanero and jalapenos, so let’s dive into it. This sandwich packs some serious punch. Now it starts off….The first thing that you taste after you take a bite of this sandwich is the jalapeno cheese bread. And then as your teeth dig in deeper you got the prime rib, and then while everything is oozing out of this sandwich there you can taste those peppers. Like we said you got four different peppers in this sandwich, including habanero as well as jalapeno, so really delicious. Again, if you like spice you’re going to love this sandwich. And of course you got to wash it down, especially with this type of sandwich, wash it down with one of their specialty brews.

Blue Palms Brewhouse in Northridge, they’re located on Balboa Boulevard just north of Roscoe on the east side of the street. Come out and support these guys, it’s a newer establishment, they moved over from the West Side, they were originally established in 2008 but they just moved into their new location here in the San Fernando Valley. This is a type of place that really we don’t have a lot of here in the north side of the valley so come out and support these guys.

If you liked this episode you already know what to do, make sure you like, comment, especially share so we can blow these guys up, and we look forward to seeing you next time on Eat, Live, Love San Fernando Valley.
