Barbie-Q’s owner, Fortune, started this business in a food truck. It was doing great for 5 years but unfortunately, when COVID struck, she lost most if not all of her business. When the situation began to get better, there was two paths that lay In front of her – either lose everything that she had or take a leap of faith and open a restaurant. That’s how the story of Barbie-Q began.

What sets Barbie-Q apart from all the Texas-style barbecue joints in Los Angeles is that they are more of a Midwestern type fusion. You’ll find standard Midwestern fare such as oversized Polish links as well as soul food items including their incredible ribs, baked beans, and Mac and cheese. All of these items share the menu with their oversized Reuben sandwiches. Their barbecue is slow-cooked on low-heat that makes the meat tender and juicy. It creates a family-type environment where everyone has something that they’ll love. They are most known for their ribs and pulled pork. Both are very delicious and tender in that the meat falls off the bone. Their whole idea behind the menu is that there is something for everybody.

In this episode, Scott tries the Rainbow Reuben. It is a fusion of Barbie-Q’s corned beef, turkey, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Russian dressing. These ingredients combine to give this dish a lot of flavors and texture.. Aside from that, Scott is also trying the short rib taco. It has jalapeno, pickle relish, cilantro-lime cream sauce and a little bit of barbecue sauce.
