For this episode of “Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley,”” we’re out in Sylmar. Buffalo Bruce’s Mercantile has been a family-owned restaurant since 1997. According to Vivian, the owner, their theme is a positive community, color creativity, kick-ass barbecue, and wake-your-ass-up coffee. Since Bruce is from Texas, it makes sense that he’d have an expert handle on how to barbecue.
Today we are featuring their tri-tip, which is a lean piece of meat they sear over the fire to give it a nice, charcoal flavor on the skin. Then they smoke it twice, first without any sauces on it to tenderize the meat and then again with their sauces added to create a mouth-watering flavor.
Beyond their smoked meats, they also are known for their coffee—in particular, their Oh My God, Maria. Vivian’s mother’s name is Maria. She had the idea to blend a nice coffee, and so after making her recipe, people would taste it and exclaim, “Oh my God, Maria, that’s so good!” It’s been their No. 1 best-seller ever since.
If you like barbecue and great coffee, be sure to support our friends at Buffalo Bruce’s Mercantile here in Sylmar on the corner of Foothill and Hubbard. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for any questions about real estate. See you next time!
