Jane and Bert Boeckmann Park: A New Jewel in Porter Ranch

They say good things come to those who wait, and for the North Valley residents of Porter Ranch, the wait is finally over! Today, we celebrate the grand opening of the stunning Jane and Bert Boeckmann Park, a 50-acre haven of beauty, activity, and community spirit. Featured on Eat, Live, Love San Fernando Valley, this park is set to become a cherished gathering place for all.

A Grand Opening to Remember

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a lively affair, with the park buzzing with energy and excitement. From pickleball courts to an outdoor ping pong area, an amphitheater, and the breathtaking Sesevenga Pavilion honoring the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, every corner of this park invites exploration and connection.

Council Member John Lee, who has lived in the community since 1978, expressed his excitement during the opening. “This park is a place for people to come together and spend time with each other,” he shared. After years of anticipation, his dedication to ensuring every detail was perfect—from light switches to landscaping—has paid off.

When asked if he’d try his hand at pickleball, Council Member Lee chuckled, “I promised a few people I’d pick up a paddle, so you might just see me out there!”

Honoring History and Legacy

Rudy Ortega, a representative of the Fernandeño Tataviam Tribe, shed light on the deep history of the land. “Our ancestry predates the San Fernando Mission,” he explained, sharing the stories of his ancestors who once called the surrounding mountaintops home.

The collaboration with the Boeckmann family to name the Sesevenga Pavilion in the Tataviam language is a testament to the community’s commitment to honoring its roots. Rudy invited everyone to learn more about the tribe’s rich history through their website, tataviam-nsn.us.

A Community’s Dream Realized

The Boeckmann family’s philanthropy played a pivotal role in bringing this park to life. Beau Boeckmann, reflecting on his parents’ legacy, said, “They always taught us to give back. This park is an incredible honor for our family and a testament to their love for this community.”

Local residents couldn’t contain their excitement. Andy, a Porter Ranch local, shared, “The atmosphere here is amazing! Everyone’s happy, and I’m especially thrilled for the pickleball courts.”

Richard, who enjoyed a lively ping pong match with his wife, quipped, “We’ve been waiting for this park for months. The views here are unmatched, and it’s such a joy to play outdoors in a setting like this.”

A Park Like No Other

Whether you’re a sports enthusiast, history buff, or someone seeking a peaceful escape, Jane and Bert Boeckmann Park has something for everyone. From the amphitheater hosting live performances to playgrounds and basketball courts, this park embodies the diverse spirit of the community.

Nestled just off Mason Avenue, north of Rinaldi Street, the park is now open to all. So grab your paddle, lace up your sneakers, or simply bring a blanket to relax and enjoy the view.
