Brand New Cafe & Enjoy a Board Game at Game N’ Grounds

Game n’ Grounds is more than just another cafe. It’s a place where you people come together to enjoy playing board games over good coffee, good food, and great vibes. Co-Owner George gives Scott Himelstein a behind the scenes look of how exactly they make some of their most popular items and the ideology behind the entire place on this episode of Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley.

Where can you play board games and grab a fantastic bite to eat? Today on Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley we’re at Game n’ Grounds in Chatsworth. Let’s get to it.

The San Fernando Valley has a lot to offer. Amazing food, rich history, tons of community events and amazing people and organization. I’m Scott Himelstein with the Scott Himelstein group, and this is Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley.

George, it’s great to be here.

Hey, thanks for coming, Scott.

This is such a great concept. So tell us about this place, Game n’ Grounds.

Yeah, so this is a place where you can come with your family and friends to play board games, enjoy great food, drinks and just have a really good relaxing time.

So how did you come up with this idea? There’s not a lot of places like this on the east coast, but especially here in the valley, there’s nothing like it.

Yeah, so there’s a few places. My wife and I go traveling a lot and we always visit game stores around different cities. She loves coffee, I love games and we put it together.

And for the games, so how does that work? Can people buy the games? Can rent the games.

Yeah, you can come in and do both. So you can come in and check out a game. We have a games library, you give us your ID. We let you rent the game out and there’s no cost. Hopefully you buy food and drink and enjoy. And then we also have games for sale as well. So if you like the game, hopefully we have it in stock and you can purchase it.

And especially on weekends, Friday evenings, this is the place to be now in the valley?

Yeah, it’s actually surprising. We’ve only been open a few months and our Fridays and Saturdays sometimes don’t have room for people to sit but every table has a game on it and it warms my heart because that’s really what we built this place for.

What type of items do you guys have on your menu?

Some of them are our more popular items are that are Turke pesto sandwich, which we make the pesto in house. We also carry Boars Head meat for all our sandwiches. For breakfast, the breakfast burrito and the Tres Leches French toast are our most popular items. And then for drinks, we have our specialty drinks like the Queens lavender and the Kings Rose, both very delicious from Stumptown Coffee.

It all sounds delicious. Let’s go back in the kitchen and see how you do everything.

Guys, this is such a cool place. What a great vibe. So I’m gonna be trying two of the items on their menu, the Turkey pesto sandwich and their Tres Leches French toast. So their Turkey pesto sandwich, they actually layered it with pesto sauce on the top. So it gives it that extra crunchiness and flavor and let’s dive in. Hmm. So simple but so good. The first bite is the crunchiness of the bread and then you immediately taste the pesto flavor. And then of course, the Boar’s Head Turkey, great quality meat. And then, this is what I’ve been really dying to try all day today, is the Tres Leches French toast. So obviously a lot of contrast from the Turkey pesto sandwich. This is very sweet and who doesn’t like tres leches, love the custard sauce they use for this French toast. And of course I would be remissed, if I didn’t wash it down with some of their iced coffee.

So Game n’ Grounds, they’re located in Chatsworth. They’re on Devonshire Street, just three blocks east of Topenga Canyon Boulevard on the north side of the street. Guys, if you’re looking for a fun, unique place to hang out with your friends or family here in the San Fernando Valley, this is it.
