For this episode of Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley, we’re out in Northridge at Pita Pockets to learn more about their business, their Lebanese heritage, and their killer laffa shawarma wrap.
I spoke with owner Sawsan Elmor about how Pita Pockets came to be and what their philosophy as a restaurant is. This family-owned and operated business has actually been around since 1998. They make all of their menu items fresh daily and try to order in as few ingredients as possible from outside sources. Fresh bread, fresh salads, and kebabs are just a few of their staples.
The most iconic dish on the menu may also be the simplest. Pita Pocket’s laffa bread is homemade daily with a secret recipe and a special oven. After it’s baked, they will serve it on its own or with any other kind of laffa sandwich.
“Fresh bread, salads, and kebabs are just a few of their staples.”
The shawarma meats are roasted on a circular spit until they are nice and tender. Good ingredients make good shawarma, and Pita Pockets prides themselves on sourcing all their products.
