As soon as you enter the festival, the first thing that strikes you is the incredible aroma of all the different foods. It’s like walking into a delightful cornucopia of scents that immediately makes your mouth water. The festival is a haven for food lovers, and we’re here to give you a taste of what it has to offer.

Let’s start with the grilled chicken, one of the festival’s staples. In just three days, they go through between 1,500 and 2,000 chickens, along with over 1,200 beef souvlaki. The secret to their mouth-watering flavor lies in the Greek basics: olive oil, lemon, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper, with a few secret ingredients they won’t divulge. Tasting this juicy, tender chicken is an experience in itself. The perfectly grilled meat, combined with traditional Greek sides like cheese pie, rice, and Greek salad, is simply divine.

Next up is the souvlaki skewer, another must-try. Tender, perfectly cooked meat that practically falls off the skewer, bursting with flavor in every bite. The festival offers a mishmash of dishes that satisfy even the heartiest of appetites, making it a perfect spot to indulge.

No Greek festival would be complete without a taste of Ouzo. This black licorice-flavored drink is a staple here, and toasting with a hearty “opa” adds to the festive atmosphere. The drink pairs wonderfully with the food, enhancing the overall culinary experience.

The gyro sandwiches are another highlight, evident by the long lines of eager patrons. The gyros are incredibly popular, and for good reason. Juicy, tender meat wrapped in warm pita bread, topped with fresh vegetables and a blend of tzatziki and homemade sriracha sauce create a perfect balance of flavors.

For dessert, the festival offers a delightful array of traditional Greek sweets. Loukoumades, or Greek donuts, are a crowd favorite. These fluffy, slightly crunchy treats are drizzled with syrup made from cinnamon, citrus, lemon, and herbs, sometimes topped with Nutella and nuts. It’s pure heaven in every bite.

Another standout dessert is the diples, a fried dough pastry dipped in honey syrup and sprinkled with cinnamon and almonds. The melomakarona, a spiced cookie with cloves, Metaxa liqueur, and cinnamon, dipped in honey syrup and topped with walnuts, is also a must-try. And of course, there’s baklava, with both traditional and chocolate varieties offering layers of flaky phyllo pastry and sweet filling.

Beyond the food, the festival’s vibrant atmosphere is infectious. From the lively Greek music and dance performances to the bustling craft stalls, there’s something for everyone. The dancers, who compete together throughout the year, perform with a synchronicity that is mesmerizing to watch. Participating in the dancing, even if you’re not a pro, adds to the fun and camaraderie of the event.
