On this week’s episode of Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley, I’m in Lake Balboa at Black Heart Coffee to check out another awesome eatery.

Although their name is “Black Heart Coffee Co.,” you can get so much more here than just a delicious caffeinated beverage. The concept is coffee and food. A lot of places have one or the other, and not a lot have both. Black Heart Coffee Co. does, and they’re proud of it.

They work with a ton of great local roasters. One of them gets his beans straight from a woman’s farm in El Salvador, and the high quality of the beans not only helps make all the drinks better, but it also helps support sustainable farming practices.

There is a lot of competition for coffee places here, so one way that Black Heart stands out is with their incredible food menu. One of the co-owners, Steve, has a strong culinary background and brings that to the kitchen. They roast their own turkeys, source their own veggies, and take local ingredients to the next level with their own special touch. One such example is the kimchi grilled cheese, which I sampled at 4:00 in the video above.

“The food is just as good as the coffee.”

They make this sandwich with organic havarti and cheddar cheeses, and get their kimchi from a local Korean kimchi master. It’s topped with honey and rock salt; it’s funky, but it’s oh so delicious.

I highly encourage you to make the trip out here to Lake Balboa some morning for a nice pick me up and a delicious meal. Black Heart Coffee Co. is located just south of Sherman Way on Balboa Boulevard. Really cool people, great vibe, and great food.

If you know of another local eatery that we should visit next, let us know. In the meantime, if you have any questions related to real estate, I’m always happy to answer them. Just give me a call or send me an email today.
