Where can you find skyscraper-sized sandwiches and delicious home bake goods? Today on, Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley, we’re at one of the most iconic restaurants in the San Fernando Valley. We’re at Brent’s Deli in Northridge. Let’s go check ’em out.

The San Fernando Valley has a lot to offer. Amazing food, rich history, tons of community events, and amazing people and organizations. I’m Scott Himelstein with the Scott Himelstein Group, and this is, Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley.

Brent, it’s awesome to be here.

Good to meet you.

All right, so this place means a lot to me. As a kid growing up here in the San Fernando Valley, generations of my family, we would always come here and get food from Brent’s catered for all of our different events. So tell me a little bit about Brent’s. What to kind of expect when someone might come here if they haven’t been here already.

You’re gonna expect great service, great food, and a very warm atmosphere. Our customers know our servers and vice versa. It’s like a big family, pretty much.

And speaking of family, Yes. this is one of the most iconic family-owned restaurants here in the San Fernando Valley. And your namesake, obviously, is attached to this place, in a strange way.

That’s true. Yes, that is true. A strange way. I was seven when my dad bought an existing deli called Brent’s Deli, and the rest is history. We didn’t change anything. He didn’t wanna change the name or anything. And it’s been like that for more than 50 years.

You guys are known for your oversized sandwiches as well as your baked goods.

Yes.

But almost everything here is made in-house.

Everything but breads are made in-house. Breads, we let a local bakery handle our breads.

Today which sandwich are you gonna have me try?

Let’s do a Pastrami Reuben.

All right, and what is the Pastrami Reuben here?

Okay, so it’s navel black pastrami, that we double steam, on rye bread. We got thousand island, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut. Comes with fries on the side and a little cup of coleslaw.

Well, I’m dying to try it. Let’s go back in the kitchen and see how you do it.

Okay, you got it.

Cool.

All right, I’ve been waiting all day to take a bite to this bad boy. The first thing you notice when you bite into this sandwich, is the rye bread. I love the crunch sound that you immediately hear when you take a bite into this sandwich. So this sandwich has perfect flavor all the way through. When you consider the fact that you have your pastrami, you got your sauerkraut, your cheese on it, again on this double-baked rye bread. Now take a look here, get a good piece, at this pastrami. First of all, look how thinly sliced it is as well as, look at the blackened edges on it. So this is cooked to perfection.

Guys, if you’re looking for just a great deli here in the San Fernando Valley, this place is family owned. It’s not uncommon to see families of four generations in the same booth. Like I told you before, I grew up at this restaurant. My family would take me here all the time. You’re looking for a fantastic spot for oversized desserts, dessert goods, sandwiches, breakfast, brunch, you name it. Brent’s is the place to be. There’s a reason why this is one of the most iconic restaurants in the San Fernando Valley. So Brent’s Deli, they’re located, again, in Northridge. They’re at Corbin and Parthenia. Make sure you come by and check ’em out.

If you like this episode, you already know what to do. Make sure you like, comment, most importantly, share. And we look forward to seeing you next time on Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley.
