Truman House Tavern owners Miguel and Joelleen love food and cocktails. They serve scratch-made local seasonal fare, creative cocktails, craft beers on tap, and great whiskey.
Joeleen was classically trained in savory cuisine from Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena. Miguel started his culinary career 29 years ago and assisted in opening several chain food kitchens. Joeleen eventually became a baker and together they opened A Sweet Design bakery in Granada Hills. It was a huge success. Joeleen’s unique hand-piped designs and delicious cakes, along with Miguel’s elaborately detailed 3D designs, were soon in high-demand.
In 2017, Joeleen & Miguel sold A Sweet Design in Granada Hills to a former employee and opened Truman House Tavern in 2018, the first gastropub in the historical city of San Fernando.
The city of San Fernando has gone through an incredible beautification process over the last several years and Truman House Tavern is definitely part of it. They found the right spot in San Fernando alongside many great small family businesses. From then on, they have been embraced so well by their customers in this wonderful town.
The concept behind Truman House Tavern is simple – they just want to offer great whiskey, great cocktails, fresh local beer, and make great burgers. They want people to feel at home in their restaurant.
In this episode, Scott tries the Pastrami Jalapeño Burger. It is a oversized burger that starts with a great brioche bun. They use a peppery pastrami that gets sizzled up a little bit. It is put on top of an angus burger. Then it is topped with grilled onions, sliced and flash-fried jalapeno, some Dijon mustard and finished off with American cheese. This is soooo good. There is a reason Truman House Tavern is known for their burger and drinks. And of course you got to wash it down with one of their creative cocktails.
