Where can you find some of the best Southern and Creole cuisine in all of Los Angeles? Today on Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley we kick off season 4 with a treat for you. Today we’re in Chatsworth at Les Sisters Southern Kitchen. Let’s go check them out.

San Fernando Valley has a lot to offer. Amazing food, rich history, tons of community events and amazing people and organizations. I’m Scott Himelstein with the Scott Himelstein Group and this is Eat Live Love San Fernando.

Jessica, it’s great to be here.

Thanks Scott, nice to be here.

All right, so congrats on opening finally your second location. So if people don’t know the story behind Les Sisters, Les Sisters is steeped in so much history.

Allow me to just kind of touch base on the history of the restaurant. Started back in ’86 where the grandparents had an idea of putting a soul food spot in the middle of San Fernando Valley. Through the years they had passed on and my father Kevin, picked it up and he ran the store doing what he could. So now it’s my turn to show what we can do here in Chatsworth.

Well, speaking of Chatsworth, your original location is in Chatsworth, the second location’s here in Chatsworth. But there’s some differences between the original location on Devonshire Street and the new location here on Nordhoff.

This is true. Since we’re so close to each other, we have to have some differences. At this location we’re primarily lunch and brunch with, along with the popular Cajun dishes that you may find at the original store.

Right but you were talking about brunch. So what are some of the popular items on the brunch menu that people might be able to find here?

Scott, yes. We like to introduce shrimp and grits here. We offer chicken and waffles. We offer, our take on what we call, it’s a jambalaya omelet. But basically it’s jambalaya with eggs mixed in. Great stuff here.

So I know just coming here over the years, two of the most popular dishes that your clientele orders are the jambalaya and the fried chicken.

Yes.

So the jambalaya, there’s a couple different types of jambalaya but how do you guys make it?

Well, it’s sauteed basically with rice and mixed vegetables. You  have to have Cajun seasoning and you have your different protein options.

All right and the fried chicken, it’s really unique here. So you know, here in Southern California the last several years everybody seems to be doing fried chicken but you guys might be actually been doing it the longest?

I would say yes. If I like to tip my hat out there, we were the first out there to give great fried chicken to the Valley.

All right and the fried chicken, tell me about it

What can I say. Fresh ingredients made to order, not, never sitting around, you know, waiting. Dipped in that milk, made with love and care, original or spicy, however you like it we can do it.

Well, I’m going to try the spicy fried chicken so let’s go back in the kitchen and see how you do it.

Let’s do it.

All right guys. There’s a lot of food on the table right here. So first I just wanted to show you the jambalaya omelet. You can only get it here at the Les Sisters Number Two. So just how beautiful of a plate that is. Now of course, you know you got the mac and cheese. My kids could eat this all day long. And the collard greens. Just there’s so many different items on the menu for you to be able to choose from, something for everybody. However, I’ll be honest, every time I come here I almost always come back to the same thing and the one and only, the fried chicken. You can get fried chicken in a lot of places here in the San Fernando Valley but you’re going to have a hard time being able to top this one. I’m going to dive right into it.

This fried chicken is incredible if you’ve never tried it. So first of all the first thing you taste is the Cajun seasoning on top. Now, I personally, as you know, I like my food quite spicy. You can get it without the spice but I like the Cajun seasoning that they have here at Les Sisters..

Les Sisters 1 or 2, you’re going to get the same seasoning. Now that’s number one.

Now second, the next thing is the actual chicken itself. It pretty much like melts off the bone. So much flavor on the chicken and the skin, the outside of it has like that crunchiness to it but not too much and not too little. It’s like the perfect amount, just overall, one of the best fried chicken you’re going to  be able to try here in Los Angeles.

All right, so Les Sisters #2. So their original location also in Chatsworth but their newest one here in Chatsworth is on Nordhoff Street, on the south side of the street, just east of Mason Avenue, again, here in Chatsworth.

If you’re looking to try one of the best Creole Cajun spots in Los Angeles, we’re blessed not only to have one but two locations for Les Sisters. Make sure you come out and give these guys a try and support them. They’ve been a backbone of the community here in Chatsworth for decades.

So make sure you like, comment, and share and we look forward to seeing you next time on Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley.
